About WGC Celebration

Together for WGC, with the support of the Howard Centre, are delighted to bring you the WGC Celebration in just a few weeks time. It's an opportunity to champion the town, its spirit and how special it is.

At the heart of the event are the groups, organisations and businesses that will showcase their offer, and create moments to meet, make and do. From spotting the rugby ball to listening to WGC memories (and making new ones), there’s something for everyone at the WGC Celebration.

On the Performance Stage, outside the Howard Centre in Howardgate, you’ll see local performers showcase their talents, under the trees and one the favourite views of the town. Bring a seat or a picnic blanket and enjoy the show!

Launching on Weds 2 July – Weds 16 July the pop up exhibition will take place in the former Clinton Cards and in the week that runs up to the event there’s tasters on offer from archery, gardening to golf!

On 12 July the WGC Celebration Day itself kicks off with an opening by our current Mayor, Lynn Chesterman at 10.45am outside the Howard Centre.

Here’s what you can expect to find:

  • Showcasing Local Talent: At the centre of the celebration will be live performances that highlight the diverse musical, dance, and other artistic talents in our town. Expect some great performances!
  • Meet, Make + Do: Explore the Howard Centre for tasters, activities, and opportunities to try out new things. Whether it’s something you’ve never done before or a hidden talent waiting to be discovered, we’ve got you covered.
  • Community Mural: One of the highlights will be a large mural depicting life in our town, created by the attendees under the guidance of a local artist. It’s a unique chance to leave your mark and contribute to a collective artwork.
  • Heritage Exhibition: Take a trip down memory lane with a heritage exhibition showcasing the town’s development and evolution.
  • Activity Sessions: In the week before and after the 12th, various groups will open their venues for taster sessions.
  • Business & Charity Involvement: Local businesses, retailers, charities, and services will have a fantastic opportunity to showcase their work, local products, and help everyone to understand and appreciate their contributions to the community.

A small group of dedicated and skilled volunteers has made the day happen, to celebrate the town itself. Interested in what it could become in the future? Contact us.
